The German Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, Dr. Gerd Müller, escorted by a team of German officials, businessmen and journalists, visited the district hospital from Orhei town and the kindergarten from Pelinia village, the district of Drochia.
Those two facilities have benefited by financial sources of the European Union (EU), a German government-owned development bank KfW and the World Bank, which were managed through Moldova Social Investment Fund (MSIF), as well as financial sources offered by other national and international donors.
With the technical assistance of MSIF there were performed the following works:
1.The kindergarten from Pelinia village, the district of Drochia, has got a new roof, windows and doors, water and sanitary supply, inside and outside renovation, as well as a new boiler room provided with boilers working on biomass (pellet) that allowed the community to reduce the heating costs up to 70 %. The kindergarten was also provided with the new furniture for pupils.
2.The Perinatal centre from Orhei district hospital has got a new roof (1 810 m2) and a complete solar water heating system (20 solar panels of 30 vacuum tubes per each).
It is to mention that, in 2011 MSIF was the first financial institution that supported the request of the District Council and hospital’s administration from Orhei to pilot a demonstrative project concerning the implementation of energy efficiency measures including the use of renewable energy sources. Hereafter, due to a large promotion campaighn, within the Project funded by the European Union, as well as due to the capacities developed by MSIF at the hospital's administration, the other national and international donors expressed thei interest to continue, replicate and develop MSIF’s initiative at this facility. Thus, there were additionally held different measures of growing energy efficiency of hospital’s blocks by replacement of windows and doors, thermal insulation of walls, mounting solar collectors and other activities which led to the reduction of bill's cost – up till 400 00 MDL annually.
At present, thanks to the synergy of donors which appreciated and continued MSIF’s initiative, the kindergarten from Pelinia village is recognized as an excellence model in the field of preschool education in the district of Drochia, while the district hospital from Orhei represents a successful demonstrative project referring to the efficient use of energy, that's why the administration of the hospital was awarded as “The best project of energy efficiency in public sector” within the gala “Moldova Eco Energetica” held in December, 2012.
Dr. Gerd Müller, the German federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and Mrs. Eva Witt, Director for Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia (KfW) have highly appreciated the quality of the performed work and expressed their faith that the involvement of the local population in projects' implementation, promoted/supported with MSIF’s assistance, will contribute to the community development and growth of the economic and social potential of the Republic of Moldova.
